He notices that Europeans tend to want dominion over the earth, whereas the natives feel like a part of nature itself.Įventually, he encounters a group of kids around his own age, led by Lachlan Beattie. He leaves his home in the bush to try to find a better life with the rest of the Europeans who are still trying to develop their city. Gemmy Fairley is living in a Queensland settlement in the 1850's, where he has been raised by aboriginals.
